Jos Buttler made history in T20 cricket by becoming the first batter to cross the 15,000 run mark in the format. The English white-ball star reached the milestone in his last T20 appearance, marking yet another milestone in his prolific career.
Jos Buttler created history at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff during the second T20I against Sri Lanka. He overtook Kieron Pollard to become the leading run-scorer in T20 cricket, cementing his place as one of the game’s best. Buttler reached the milestone with a knock of 30 to help England reach 145 and secure the series.
But that’s not all: Buttler is now the first player to ever score 15,000 runs in T20 cricket. These runs have a solid average of 35.46 and an impressive strike rate of 147.46. During his 17-year career he scored 9 centuries and 107 fifties.

England’s dominance over Sri Lanka continues to grow. With this victory, England have beaten Sri Lanka 14 times in a row. Sri Lankan cricket has not been the same for a long time and these matches have mostly been one-sided. Both games in the series went England’s way: firstly, a 119-run victory after Sri Lanka were bowled out chasing 255. In the second match, Sri Lanka batted first but could only score 145 for 9, which England chased comfortably.
It’s hard to imagine Sri Lanka stopping England at this stage; they face the threat of a series of whitewashes. The last T20I match will be played at the Emirates Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester on September 19. England and Sri Lanka will then play a three-match ODI series before Sri Lanka heads to the Asian Games in Japan.
