Live flight chaos as ‘technical problem’ causes delays and disruptions across UK

Rich Burgon, 38, and his partner Lucy Holland, 39, who owns a pub in Wetherby, West Yorkshire, were on Swiss International Airlines flight LX395 to Zurich to watch Robbie Williams in concert tomorrow, writes Chris Slater.

They were stuck on the tarmac at Manchester Airport for more than two hours with their flight due to take off at 2pm and not take off until after 4pm.

Rich said: “We kind of knew we were on the motorway and the flight was delayed by 20 minutes. But nothing was mentioned at the airport, we thought we were leaving at two o’clock.”

“When we got on the plane, we knew we would have to be delayed for a long time because nothing was happening. Then the pilot told us we would have to wait.”

Rich said everyone was “very quiet” and the atmosphere was “calm” as he and his traveling companions were given a free bottle of water while they waited.

Even after waiting for about two hours when the plane started moving, they were stuck in a line of planes waiting to take off for about 25 minutes, he said.

“I wanted to go to Zurich, which is actually quite funny because we would have already been there,” he added.
