Senior BJP leader and former Leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly Rajendra Rathore objected to the song dedicated to Maharana Pratap in the film. Mirzapur Film along with scenes featuring gangsters and criminal characters.

Rathore has written a letter to Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Chairman Prasoon Joshi and demanded that the song ‘Shoorveer’ sung by Rapperiya Baalam be removed from the film.

He also urged the board to ensure that songs, symbols and references associated with historical figures are not used in a manner that could harm public sentiment.

“Use of Rapperiya Baalam’s song ‘Shoorveer’ in Mirzapur Film along with gangsters, drug peddlers and criminal characters are highly objectionable and offensive to public sentiment,” Rathore said in a letter sent to the CBFC.

Rathore said that such depiction is disrespectful to Maharana Pratap and the historical and cultural heritage associated with him.

He said that there is a clear distinction between the values represented by Maharana Pratap and the values associated with gangster characters.

“It is inappropriate to link these two completely different contexts together,” he said, adding that there had also been objections to the use of the song on social media.

“I request the Central Board of Film Certification to remove the lyrics of the song ‘Shoorveer’ from Mirzapur Film” Rathore said and urged the censor board to ensure that such use of songs, symbols and references associated with historical figures is not allowed in future.

Earlier, Rapperiya Baalam had sent a legal notice to the filmmakers for using the song without his permission.
